Tipping the Citi

Citibank’s Bitcoin: At the Tipping Point

On March 1, Citibank published “Bitcoin: At the Tipping Point,” a 106-page report, immediately creating a buzz in the community. Apart from making a promise of going mainstream soon, the paper suggests that Bitcoin can become the main international trade currency.

While some crypto enthusiasts were blown away by the report, others remained skeptical, accusing Citibank of posting good-for-headlines content. The article in FT breaks down the questionable statistics, awkward defense of infamous Tether’s activities, weak arguments, and surprising information sources such as 99Bitcoins websites.

Interest (-ing) Rates

Compound’s Gateway

A few months ago, Compound, an algorithmic, autonomous interest rate protocol, released its whitepaper for the Compound Chain. The blockchain is meant for transferring value and liquidity between peer ledgers.

At the beginning of March, the team announced Gateway, a prototype of the chain. Gateway aims to build a solid foundation of the global interest rate market while working with any digital asset ever released.

More is Coming

The Rise of the Ethereum Economy: Why So Special

Ethereum’s evolving. Once the news about the $600,000 Nyan cat’s NFT sale has gone viral, more people got interested in crypto in general and Ethereum network specifically. The article in Coinbase’s blog explores the subject of the new rising economy kickstarted by DeFi, stablecoins, NFTs, crypto games and art.

Unlike many other digital assets, the second biggest coin is a lot more than its market value. That wasn’t left unnoticed by institutional investors to expect more exciting developments in the future.

Wrap, Swap

Andre Cronje’s Cross-Chain stuff

Andre Cronje, the DeFi architect and creator of Yearn finance, explained the mechanics behind cross-chain cross-asset swaps in detail. So if you still don’t really understand how wrapped BTC (wBTC) can be swapped with Ethereum via the cross-chain solution and where the liquidity comes from, the article will shine a light on the topic.

Gas to Remain High

Economic Analysis of EIP-1559

Although Ethereum miners are not delighted about the Ethereum Improvement Proposal 1559 because of reducing their income, it will likely be included in the upcoming July’s hardfork. A software engineer Saša Milić has published an overview of the proposal explaining that it probably won’t decrease the gas price but improve user experience. She also mentions Roughgarden’s version of EIP-1559 as a possible compromise.
